OOC: Delirium Primer

First there was a Death primer, then came the Dream primer and the next sensible step would be to offer a Delirium primer also.

So if you've ever had a nervous breakdown, been driven insane, suffered from hallucinations, had a fever, seen things that aren't really there, heard voices, suffered from major paranoia, psychosis or any major mental health problems then you're probably one of Delirium's happy little playthings.

Delirium is not likely to remember much about you but if you would like her to know some things about your pups then please comment with their given names and any information about what occured then that would be peachy.

This is of course all optional but if you do wish to participate then *loffs*

Edward Elric has... mental problems. Most of his stem from multiple cases of Post Traumatic Stress disorder. The first, and incident which effects him the most strongly is the incident depicted in This video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7j0MPWovCAk). The whole thing was an attempt on his and his brother's part to bring their mother back to life using alchemy. This was the result.

As I already mentioned in Delirium's debut, Stephen has a history of laudanum addiction and also suffered from delirium during a severe fever after being shot in a duel. He doesn't remember much about the fever, but he spent a lot of time reciting random verses in Latin, expressing guilt about killing his opponent in the duel, and babbling about how much he adores Diana Villiers (for whom the duel was fought, and whom he later married).

Ragetti isn't quite insane normally, but he has suffered heatstroke and multiple ordeals through his life that have left his mental state rather questionable. So, I think it is quite possible that he be considered one of hers.

More importantly, would be the madness brought upon him and the crew by the Aztec curse. It made them uncontrolable, so he was most definitely with her for those ten years.

There are only two that Delirium would know.

Romana ratherbefred: who actually had delusions IG (if you want, I could link you, if not, that's cool) and probably suffers from PTSD. Her on the Island crazy happened from severe dehydration, and was, one of the worse things that has happened to this formerly immortal girl. She talked about snow and burning and a child doesn't exist and was calm about it. She's probably a bit off additionally as through her life she's been called a god, ruled her people (then had them be killed in front of her), and abandoned in a foreign universe.

Isolde thefairone: (who she thread with Delirium anyways as she lived with Death) went a bit mad when she was 12 years old and her mother died and she nearly drowned. She had a bit of a breakdown, lived in the wild for about two years before being recaptured and married off to the infamous Mark, who later locked her in a tower for a week and probably caused another tiny breakdown. She's better now, but every so often she says the weirdest things, all of which trace back to what's happened to her.

Linkage would be much appreciated, probably due to the nature of the island she won't know island crazies but I'd still like to see how other people deal with the issue of mental health problems.

And Isolde sounds like she would have been a favourite of Delirium's, not so much as Samara but one of the more liked ones.

Neither Meredith nor Margaery should be familiar to Delirium, I would think, since they're both comparatively sane and haven't had any issues I can think of. Sacharissa has had her... moments of madness, but it's been agreed after much discussion that the Endless probably know the immortals who work the Disc, but they don't do it themselves, so I think Del wouldn't know her. So here's the pertinent one:

Veronica is usually sane, as far as teenage girls go, but she's been under a lot of pressure in her past. Following the murder of her best friend, she was sent to see a psychiatrist for a while, but that was at her mom's insistence; she didn't feel she needed to be there. For a year and a half, almost two years, after Lilly's death, Veronica had vivid memories and waking dreams -- she would tell you they were just her imagining things, working out clues by imagining what Lilly would say, but they were closer to hallucinations -- of Lilly Kane. She can be pretty paranoid; the life she's lived has taught her she has to be, since she's nearly died a couple of times. But again the information probably most pertinent is that the hallucinations were about Lilly (who is now on the island as well).

Over seven years before his arrival on the island, Geoffrey suffered a breakdown on stage (the result of stress and betrayal and a mind that was probably just a little bit prone to this sort of thing anyway) and was institutionalised for about a year. For the past few months, ever since the death of his mentor (Oliver), he's been seeing and interacting with his "ghost", which is really just a product of his own mind though he's only just starting to come to terms with that.

Six: Suffers from hallucinations of Gaius fairly regularly, though she can't explain it. She figures she's been driven insane. Of course, she's a Cylon and Death doesn't know her, so I don't know if that counts.

Sam Winchester: Has had demons putting him through paranoia and possessing and lots of stuff occasionally, so sometimes, he flickers in and out of it. Plus, he used to be psychic!

Hrm. Well, Alan's never really been out-and-out insane, but he did have a brief episode of "word salad" in canon, during which he spoke in unintelligible gibberish.

Of course, he arrived on the island prior to that episode, so if Del made reference to it, he likely wouldn't know what she was talking about.

Basically, he's a bit on the unstable side, but he's never completely taken leave of his senses.

The Doctor doesn't like his real name mentioned. He has quite a substantial case of compounded PTSD that he represses enough to function, and is seeing Dr. Deane about it. He's also wacky as heck anyway. Delirium might have known his sixth incarnation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixth_Doctor) well enough.

Sara Sidle is explicitly not insane (it's one of her worst fears, that she might be), but her mother was--she went mad and killed Sara's abusive father. Sara has thus spent time visiting institutions and nearly died (http://www.crimelab.nl/transcripts.php?series=1&season=5&episode=21) while investigating a case in one within the last year, her time.

Death, in game, is sure she heard Delirium singing to her in the aurora borealis. This was brought on by the winter and was a passing plot arc. Feel free to take credit.

Jack Harkness is missing two years of memories and has no clue what might have happened then (nor does anyone...not til this new season of DW). Del can totally pick at him and freak him out.

Crowley, being a Gaiman creation, has been played as knowing (at least in passing) all the other pups. He knew Dream on sight and stayed with Death during the snow while he and Aziraphale had split. I've taken creative license and had him tormented in Hell for 1000 years after the whole antichrist debacle. You can take creative license too because i'm certain he didn't stay sane through it all. (He was a demon if you haven't read Good Omens).

Stu had pneumonia and experienced fever dreams and hallucinations. I mentioned this in Dream's primer, but Del can have influenced it too.

CJ, Chris and Greg are remarkably normal.

(John) Mamet used to take a LOT of drugs before coming to the island (and subsequently running out); mainly PCP (a hallucinogen) and cocaine. He's heard voices, he's seen things that weren't there, the whole thing. He also shot himself in the head which was where he came to the island from (http://community.livejournal.com/the_blank_slate/1018709.html), so she might recognize him. :)

Chris Halliwell has been jokingly called neurotic in the series, unfortunately I'm not sure I've played this up very well in game, he also suffers from extreme anxiety, is a bit anti-social, and has(had) abandonment issues.

Anita Blake has several issues because of her work, and seeing her mother die in front of her, but I don't have precise things in mind. PTSD is probably a high possibility, though it isn't dealt with much in her cannon.

My other two pups are pretty healthy psychologically I think, unless you count repression for Arthur Stuart, for he is very.

A few additional points:
The Doctor was ill in early September and moderately dehydrated. The fever and dehydration caused him to hallucinate and remember random things. If you want to really freak him out, just have Del remind him that he saw Rob Chase as an angel, or mention America's song 'Horse With No Name'.

Duo had one instance of SUPER crazy in his life, when he was hooked up to a thing called the zero system, which pushes a pilot to their limit and enhances their ability in combat, with the unfortunate side effects of homicidal rage, schizophrenia and hallucinations. He also has a strange relationship with her sister. Those are probably the pertinent things.

So, the boy grew up acting out two different personalities - one for staying with mom and one for staying with dad. Good start.
He's been an under cover cop for far too long and started having anxiety attacks, insomnia and a minor addiction to tranquilizers to deal with that. He's also somewhat paranoid from constant fear of being found out and he's done a lot of nasty things that will haunt him when it can (violence, primarily). He apparently also has a bit of claustrophobia. (He informed me of that when he was supposed to be sleeping in the compound. That was not a success.)
Erm. Yes. He's all-round pretty fucked up...

Jill Langston's had her share of breakdowns and has spent a lot of time in therapy for her panic disorder. She's felt insane a lot of times in the past and was worried she was actually losing her grasp on reality in college more than once. The woman has a panic attack/breakdown a couple times a month, but she's just gotten really good at hiding them.

I keep meaning to tag Delirium with her, too! :D

Freddy experimented with drugs in his teens and early college years, so he's probably considered one of Del's mortals. He also had a lot of random confusion and some hullicinating from the extreme blood loss he expierenced after being shot in canon.

Apparently I just suck at filling these out.

Um, Del probably knows Elphaba as she went a little mad after Fiyero was captured. Elphaba won't know her though.

Tim Drake, on the other hand, Del certainly knows. He's a Robin, which means he's a little bit crazy. He nearly died and has certainly had plenty of crazy experiences. He wouldn't know her if they met but her existence wouldn't surprise him. Batman has files after all.

Anamaria by contrast is refreshingly sane in her own cracked little way.
